having nightmares about my dissertation
I dreamt last night that Nancy Fraser, who is my faculty advisor (not the chair of my committee who actually is Jim Miller), was screaming at me for not working hard enough on my dissertation. It was a horrible nightmare; but kind of funny once I woke up and remembered it. Although I think it shows how guilty I feel that I cannot dedicate enough time to write my dissertation because I am teaching.
*sigh*

earthquake in Peru how to help

As you may know we suffered two earthquakes of 7.9 degrees last night that came one after the other. They lasted 2 minutes in total. There are (so far) 370 deaths and more than 800 injured. And the earth is still shaking (340 little quakes so far).
The YMCA of Peru's manager (who is a very good friend of mine) told me that she has opened a bank account to get donations and help the cities most affected by the two earthquakes that are Pisco, Ica and Chincha. The YMCA of Germany is sending 6 doctors to help.
I hope you can help the people from Peru. Any amount would be very useful, since it is winter here and people are living on the streets, because their houses have collapsed.
The info is:
Bank: Scotiabank
Name on the account: Asociacion Cristiana de Jovenes del Peru- YMCA PERU
Account number: 009-035-001109000153-75
Swift code: BSUDPEPL

my favorite subway station
One of my favorite subway stations in Manhattan is the 14th street/8th ave station. I lived in the Greenwich Village during my second semester at the New School for Social Research in 2001 and that was "my" station. I always enjoyed looking at the Tom Otterness sculptures and loved to discover more and more of them not only in the station but around the city.
This time I wanted to see them again and took pictures of some of them. I didn't have enough time for going through the station and taking pictures (I missed the cocodrile one that is one of my favorites) because I was running back to my friend's place to catch the shuttle to the airport.
But I wanted to share with you some of the sculptures that I got a chance to take a picture of.
Enjoy...
