Happy Domestic Worker's Day!!!!

March 30th is the international domestic workers' day. We have not organized a third smart maid's operation; but there will be many celebrations throughout the city.

These are Maria and Teodora (and me before losing 17 pounds... yes I am done with the gym and very happy with the results!!!). Maria works at my house since 2001 and works as a domestic worker since she was 13. She is from Arequipa. Teodora is from Puno, works since she was 9 years old, she is the best cook ever and is currently retired. Both saved my life helping my mom while she was very sick and I was studying in NY. Thank you for all of your help and have a happy day!!!


If you have someone working at your house or who helps you with the domestic chores... show her how grateful you are. We already did it and they totally deserve it.

the Gym's diary part 5: almost done

Next week is my last week. Final meeting with the nutritionist. Final week of exercises. I will miss the guys, the are very nice. But, I won't sign up for a new program.

I have lost 16 pounds... would I lose the remaining 4 in a week?????

To all the brave women of the world who are not afraid of facing their fears...

the Smart Maid attacked again!!!!!!!

This time the smart maid attacked two places in Miraflores (an upper middle class neighborhood) and I was coordinating one of them. What we did this time (dressed as maids again) was passing around the maid's law (with all their rights) and stickers with the new law that says that if an employer rapes his maid, he will be in jail between 12 to 18 years. In its majority, the answer we had was good. People asked us about the maid's law, we talked to actual maids about their rights and how can they get help from "the House of Panchita" (a maid's association) that has free lawyers. Unfortunately some people reacted with sarcasm like one who said that "unfortunately he was a racist", or another one saying "thank you for giving me the law, now I know better ways of exploiting my maid" or "go back to Asia" (which means that he actually remembered the time we went to the beach of Asia dressed as maids). But in general we are very happy because we could tell people about maid's rights.

And I also saw my friend Kristel, who is currently doing a MA in Argentina and is visiting Peru.

The next smart maid operation will be held in March 30th, the "maid's day".
